Last week I attended the school board meeting, as usual, and submitted this comment for the public record:
I am happy to be here tonight, and would like to thank the school board for demonstrating just how important public education is to our community.
The three resolutions before the board tonight are an example of the many ways that we can support public schools.
By acknowledging the important contributions of African Americans to the history of our nation and to our schools and also acknowledging that we need to do all we can to make sure ALL of our kids are educated in a safe and welcoming environment.
By making sure that our educators, staff and administration understand how much we appreciate everything they do every day for our kids and how hard they work to make a difference in our kids' lives.
By communicating that the taxpayer funding of voucher schools is damaging our public education system and that it is important for us to know where our property tax money is going.
Our public schools are fundamental to the success of our society and I hope that we can continue to see strong support of our schools by our community and school board
Thank you.
